Save Kauai brings together current information about Kauai and web-based tools that allow you to take action. If we want to affect the future of Kauai in a pono way we must organize and begin implementing solutions, not just fighting the problems.

Eco-Roundtable Oceans Section

The Oceans Group found that there are many organizations working on similar issues, and that collaborating on specific projects would be helpful. The topics discussed were:

  • Reef fish protection
  • Net patrol
  • Reef clean-up
  • Recycling of nets
  • Education: non-point source pollution, ocean and endangered species, reef, marine debris
  • Coral propagation
  • Alga reef versus coral reef education
  • Marketing campaign for oceanic conservation
  • Monthly report on ocean issues in newspaper
  • Confrontation in public--provoke inquiry
  • Introduce environmental info into tourism (ex-in agricultural forms, airports, hotels, etc)
  • Advertising education in entertainment
  • Combine organizations to increase demographic awareness
  • Monitor debris pick up and recording
  • Ocean fair in high school
  • Hands on experience to encourage awareness amongst high school students
  • Fishery management: rehabilitate consumption of species, action plants, public education on overfishing
  • Governmental sustainability restrictions
