Solar hot water is perhaps the easiest, most cost effective means of reducing household electricity use. Senate Bill 644 would require solar hot water heaters for all new homes in Hawai‘i­something that Israel has mandated since 1957. The measure also increases the limits for renewable energy tax credit for residential solar systems. Some exemptions to the solar mandate apply. SB 644 is pending a hearing in House HSH/EEP.
